Tomato the Terrible

Kayla is one tough cowgirl. She is a card carrying member of our local Junior Cattleman's Association. Saturday was her very first steer show. Kayla has much experience showing horses. Tomato, her FFA steer, proved to be a little more difficult to show. While doing some pre-show practicing, Tomato decided to run. Kayla decided not to let go. That terrible Tomato, who now weighs about 1100 pounds, drug Kayla a few feet and then stepped on the side of her right calf. Being the tough as nails cowgirl that she is, Kayla first told everyone she was fine. Once she tried to stand up, it was apparent that she would need a trip to the ER. I was helping with registration and tryouts at the baseball field and received a call from Josh and also from Kayla's Ag teacher. I met them at the hospital, x-rays of her leg were done. Thankfully, nothing was broken. She does however, have a very nice impression of Tomato's hoof on her calf, bruising and swelling. She is also on crutches for a few days until we follow up with her Orthopaedic. Kayla is one tough cowgirl.

Hard Rock Cycle Park

Vrooooom! We trailered the dirt bikes up to the lake house and on Tuesday took the boys and best bud Kyle to the Hard Rock Cycle Park in Ocala. It is a really cool place if you are a kid on a dirt bike. Not so cool if you are a mom with a kid, or three, on a dirt bike. Let's just say we stopped by a fire station to get some help with our directions on the way there and the young fireman said to us "We fly a lot of people out of there." This explains the sign at the gate stating that once you are on Hard Rock property, you give up your right to sue them. Not sure that is legit, but kind of makes you think, what the heck are we getting ready to do?? Upon our arrival, Grayson was more than a little upset with us, when he realized that we would only allow him to ride on the pee wee track. Grayson was certain he was ready for the big main track and had his argument fully prepared. After witnessing numerous grown men on huge bikes soar through the air at what seemed like 70 miles an hour, we decided to stick with our original plan. Grayson quickly adapted to the plan and the boys enjoyed the pee wee track safely for several hours. Billy had to jump the fence twice, yes he actually jumped, and administer patient care to two other boys while at the track. Luckily, they were both fine. Bruised, but nothing was broken. Grayson, Ronnie and Kyle had a great time, but I am not so sure my nubby fingernails can handle another visit anytime soon.
